Download Glasswitch from the Mac App Store and open it.
Click the browser icon in the menu bar. The checkmark marks your current default browser.
Choose the browser you want to use.
If macOS asks you to confirm, approve the change.
Tip: turn on Launch at Login in Settings so Glasswitch is always ready in your menu bar.
Settings and preferences
Choose Settings in the menu panel to open the Settings window.
Default Browser: see your current default and choose another from the row of browser icons.
Launch at Login: start Glasswitch automatically when you sign in.
Language: English, 简体中文, or follow the macOS language.
Appearance: Light, Dark, or Follow System.
Refresh: reload the current default and the list of installed browsers.
Recent Activity: review browser changes made while the app is running.
A browser is missing from the list
Glasswitch lists apps that register to open both HTTP and HTTPS links.
Make sure the browser is fully installed. Open it once from the Applications folder.
In Glasswitch Settings, choose Refresh.
Still missing? Report it and include the browser’s name and version.
The change didn’t take effect
Look for a macOS confirmation dialog that may still be waiting, possibly behind other windows.
Open the menu panel and check which browser has the checkmark.
If the displayed browser seems out of date, choose Refresh in Settings.
If only one app keeps opening links in a different browser, check that app’s own settings. Some apps use their own browser setting or a built-in web view.
The Mac App Store edition uses the standard macOS flow, so macOS may ask for confirmation when you switch.
What Glasswitch doesn’t do
Glasswitch changes the macOS default browser. It doesn’t:
Intercept links or ask which browser to use for each one
Send specific websites or apps to specific browsers
Switch browser profiles
Move tabs, bookmarks, passwords, or history between browsers
Quit or uninstall
To quit, open the menu panel and click the power button.
To uninstall, turn off Launch at Login in Settings, quit Glasswitch, and move it from the Applications folder to the Trash.
Your default browser stays set to the browser you chose last.
Purchases and refunds
Apple handles all Mac App Store purchases. For billing questions or a refund request, use Apple’s purchase support. Eligibility depends on Apple’s policies and your region.
