Before you start

Voltyn is for MacBook models with Apple silicon running macOS 14 or later, and is available on the Mac App Store. This guide covers the current App Store version.

  1. Start with the menu bar.Open Voltyn to see system power and data status. Unknown or missing readings are not zero.
  2. Then add the widget.Add the Voltyn widget from the macOS widget editor and read the hourly mean together with its snapshot time. If Voltyn is not listed, see troubleshooting below.
  3. Review history in Details.Choose 60 seconds, 1 hour, 1 day or 7 days to see recorded data. A longer range does not mean history exists from before you started using the app.

Three kinds of “power”

System power: what your Mac is using
Shows how system power use changes. A live reading reflects right now; the hourly mean averages the samples recorded within that hour.
Adapter capability: what the charger can supply
This is neither current consumption nor actual input power. An adapter rating higher than system power does not by itself mean your Mac is not charging properly.
Input power: information from the supply side
Limited to valid data macOS provides. It means something different from system power and adapter capability; when no data is available, it stays unknown.

Missing is not zero.

Unknown, unavailable and 0 W are different states. When readings disagree, check the reading name, sample time and time range first.

Reading the widget and history

An hourly mean, not the live menu bar value

The medium widget shows the recorded one-hour mean and trend, while the menu bar shows live system power and a 60-second chart. The widget may still show an earlier snapshot after the menu bar has changed. Check the time, then the value.

The update time is part of the data

An older snapshot does not describe the current state. After waking, before the app has recorded, or before macOS refreshes the widget, open the app to see the latest state. The widget is not a continuously refreshing gauge.

Four ranges, recorded data only

History depends on actual recording. Periods when the app was not running, recorded nothing, or crossed a session boundary never turn into continuous records. Do not assume recording continues during sleep.

Troubleshoot by symptom

No readings, or data stuck at an old time

Confirm your Mac and macOS version are supported, then check the sample time in the app. Keep the app running and watch for new records. If it is still stuck, reopen the app and note whether it happened after waking or changing the power connection.

Widget missing, or showing an old snapshot

Open Voltyn first to confirm the app has new data, then find or re-add Voltyn in the macOS widget editor. Compare the snapshot time with the latest time in the app; different wattage alone does not indicate a sync problem.

History chart empty or broken

Check whether data was actually recorded in the selected range. New installs need time to build up records, and unrecorded periods are never filled in. If new samples exist but the range is still empty, note the range and time for troubleshooting.

Calibration looks wrong after switching ports

Calibrate and check against the port you are actually using. Do not reuse another port’s result or assume the state stays valid across sessions or after waking. Describing the connection and when it changed is enough; no serial number is needed.

FAQ

Which Macs can run Voltyn?

MacBook models with Apple silicon running macOS 14 or later. Intel Macs and desktop Macs are not supported.

Why do the widget and menu bar show different numbers?

The menu bar shows live system power. The medium widget shows the recorded one-hour mean and trend, tied to its snapshot update time. Different time scales mean different numbers, which is not necessarily a fault.

Check the reading name and the time first. Do not treat an older widget snapshot as the current reading.

My charger is rated higher. Why is the reading lower?

Adapter capability is what the charger can supply, system power is what your Mac uses, and input power is information from the supply input side. They are not interchangeable.

Lower system power alone does not prove a faulty charger or cable. First confirm which reading you are comparing and whether it has a usable value.

Why does history have gaps or no chart?

History only exists for periods the app actually recorded. Time before you started using it, or when it was not running or not recording, is never filled in, and choosing a longer range does not create past data.

Missing data is not 0 W. Check the latest record time, keep the app running and watch for new records.

Why do I still see an old reading after waking my Mac?

An existing snapshot may predate this wake. Check the update time and open Voltyn to see whether new samples appear. If nothing updates, reopen the app and note the steps to reproduce.

Sessions and sleep can break history continuity. Continuous recording during sleep, or immediate backfill after waking, is not guaranteed.

If I switch ports, does calibration follow automatically?

Calibrate and check against the port you are actually using. A result from one port is not a calibration for another.

After changing connections, starting a new session or waking, check the current state again. Do not assume calibration stays valid across ports or sessions.

Can I upload diagnostic files now?

No. This website has no diagnostics upload backend or file submission form. In-app diagnostics preview and export are still in development and not yet released.

If the feature ships, you would preview the report first and then decide whether to export or share it. For now, use the checklist on this page to describe the issue with the minimum necessary detail.

Where can I buy it, and how much is it?

Voltyn is sold on the Mac App Store as a one-time purchase with no subscription or in-app purchases. In mainland China it costs ¥8; elsewhere, the App Store shows the price for your region.

This website takes no payments and offers no other downloads. Only get Voltyn from the Mac App Store.

Diagnostics and feedback

Diagnostics preview and export are in development

This feature has not been released. This website has no diagnostics upload backend or submission form, and does not describe unconfirmed button locations or export paths.

When diagnostics become available

The plan is for you to preview a report first, then choose whether to export or share it. A report may include selected power data, timestamps, app and macOS versions, and notes you add. Keep only what you are willing to share; exporting is not sending.

What to prepare now

Please never send passwords, payment details, serial numbers or full system logs. Non-sensitive questions can be posted publicly on GitHub Issues below, but never attach diagnostic logs, serial numbers or account details there. If diagnostics are needed, confirm by email first what is required and how to send it.

Requesting a refund after buying on the App Store

Some Apple purchases may be eligible for a refund. Follow Apple’s refund guidance: go to Apple’s Report a Problem site, sign in with the Apple Account you used to buy, choose to request a refund, give a reason and select the purchase.

Apple decides eligibility, and approval is not guaranteed. Progress and timing may vary; see Apple’s refund status guidance.

Account verification only happens on Apple’s own pages. Voltyn support never needs your Apple Account password or payment details and cannot promise a refund approval.

Apple guidance last checked September 8, 2026. Apple’s pages take precedence if they change.
